They really don't want you to add a battery later. They go to a lot of lengths to make sure each cell in the battery is exactly the same, and then if you have multiple batteries they want you to wire them in exactly the same way, with exactly the same length wire for each one, so they all do the same work, get the same charge, and stay in sync all the time. You can see why they don't want you to come along after six months with a brand new battery to go with the partly used ones.
Another point to consider is that this is still a rapidly changing field and there is no guarantee that the exact same battery will be available in six months time.
