My Blog Post Isolated vs Non Isolated DC DC Charger should help to clear up a lot of the confusion. Using this in a trailer is one of the occasions where Isolated might be more appropriate. This is because the non-isolated assumes the two batteries are sharing the same negative. In the case of a trailer the current path from engine all the way back to the trailer is quite long and there is voltage drop, so they are not really at the same negative potential and the Isolated might work better
