The Victron Energy SCC110050210 Smart Solar MPPT 100/50 Charge Controller with Bluetooth has a max output of 50 amps, thats what the "50" in the title refers to. The recommended 700 Watt limit came because, using the formula Watts = Volts x Amps you get 700 Watts = 14 volts x 50 amps. If your panels make more it will be wasted but as long as its not way too much more nothing bad will happen. Solar panels are comparatively expensive and solar charge controllers are cheap, especially now that they had a 40% price drop at the end of 2023 so why not install the recommended model.
