Putting panels in series works better as long as the voltage doesn't get so high as to be dangerous and as long as the limit of the MPPT is not reached. The MPPT 150/35 is rated for up to 150 volts of solar and you are paying extra for the high input voltage feature. You need to look at the VOC rating of your panels. If you put them in series then you add the VOC rating of the two panels. It must come to less than 90% of the max allowed input voltage, so for this unit it means 135 volts. In a mobile installation I suggest you don't go much above 50 volts for safety reasons, in which case you can use the MPPT 100/30 which costs less money and can be used with up to 440 Watts of panels
