You are correct, if you go in to the advanced programming menu of the ARS-5 you will be able to make your own program that has almost all the features of the preset Lithium program offered by the MC-618. The only bit you wont be able to program is the low temperature shutoff. The MC-618 will stop charging when the battery gets below a certain temperature, and the ARS will not.
