Yes this units are designed to run hot. They have cooling fins on the back. They are designed to be mounted on a bulkhead so the natural convection will move air over the cooling fins. You can add a fan if you want but its not necessary. Some people have mounted these on an aluminum plate which acts as a heatsink. The New Orion XS 50 amp model, when it comes out in Spring 2024, will be more efficient and will generate much less heat.
