Yes you absolutely should program the MC-618 regulator for the job it is doing, especially with Lithium Batteries. Lithium batteries put a huge load on alternators and if left unchecked the alternator could overheat and self destruct. There are three things you need to do:
- Set the charge profile to lithium
- Modify the charge profile to suit your particular batteries.
- Make sure you have an alternator temperature sensor fitted.
- Derate the alternator using the belt load manager part of the program, the suggested starting value is 80%
- If the batteries have an internal BMS you will need to add the Alternator Protection Module to prevent it being fried if they disconnect
