You can extend the cable. It is in two parts, the HDMI part carries all the data and you can use any HDMI cable with a double female adaptor to make the connection. The USB part just carries the power and although you can extend it you are unlikely to find one long enough. It needs to be an "active" USB cable which means it contains the power wire. If you can't find one long enough you can provide a phone charger for the USB part since all it does is power the display
