The two come in the same form factor and look the same but do a totally different job.
The MPPT Control connects to the solar charge controller and can be used for programming and to measure output current and voltage. These days not many people buy the MPPT control because you can do all this and more on your phone if you get one of the Smart Solar Charge Controllers with Bluetooth.
The BMV 700 connects to your battery and reads voltage and current as well as state of charge. It is reading all that is going in and out of the battery and if there are multiple things happening the current measurement will show the net between the various loads and charges. We dont sell so many BMV 700's these days either because now everyone prefers the Bluetooth version BMV 712
