The Victron BMV 700 is designed for use in boats but it nevertheless needs to stay dry. The shunt, which mounts next to the battery, has an exposed circuit board which will suffer from corrosion if moisture is present. For damp locations Victron have a more water resistant battery monitor, the Victron Energy SHU065150050 SmartShunt 500A/50mV (IP65 version) You can read up about IP ratings in my blog IP Ratings explained.
