No, it won't hurt the MPPT if you have too small a panel, the only thing to get hurt would be your wallet if you bought one bigger than you needed. However here are a few things to bear in mind:
- All the panels connected to the MPPT must be identical. Are you sure you will be able to buy an identical panel at a later date?
- Most people get the SmartSolar MPPT's with Bluetooth. If you get the Blue Solar it does not have Bluetooth and there is no built-in way to program it for battery type. It is possible to program it but it requires additional equipment.
