The BatteryProtect is a one way device and inverters have big capacitors. The capacitors absorb power when first connected but when the inverter is turned off they discharge the power back to the battery, which could damage the BatteryProtect. That's why you can't use it with inverters. I haven't heard the same problem with motors but I can see how they might possibly cause some of the same issues. With many of our designs here at PKYS we control winch and windlass motors using a SolidSwitch on their control wires. This has the same effect of disabling the motor, but by taking place on the control circuit only it avoids the issue of voltage spikes on the power wires. Here is a drawing.
