Is the Balmar MC-620-H Voltage Regulator compatible with 48V Mahle MG 976 or MG 1 alternators?
Balmar MC-620-H Voltage Regulator for 48 volt alternators
Hi, Do you know whether this regulator could also be used with an 48V Mahle MG 976 or MG 1 alternator, by bypassing their internal regulator? Do you have any experience using this regulator with other, non Balmar alternators. Thanks in advance, Kind regards Gregor

This regulator can be used with any externally regulated P type alternator. P type means the field terminal is expecting a positive voltage. I am not aware of anyone who has done this, but we sell a lot less 48 volt regulators so its probably just that there aren't enough out there yet. Converting an internally regulated alternator is a job for a professional. Its only worth the effort if the alternator is of sufficiently heavy duty construction to allow it to be pushed a bit harder than would happen with its internal regulator.
