The 250/85 MPPT charge controller has an internal temperature sensor which will be the default if no external sensor is connected. Since this doesn't really reflect the battery temperature it isn't particularly useful so any system requiring temperature compensated charging needs an external sensor. External sensors can be connected by VE Smart Wireless Networking. The simplest sensor is the Victron Energy SBS050150200 Long Range Bluetooth Smart Battery Sense. You can also use a BMV 712 or SmartShunt battery monitor with connected temperature sensor
