Yes, the Orion XS is a battery to battery charger and it will work even if there is no alternator as long as the source battery has enough power available. The Orion XS is rated for 50 amps so of course your source battery will quickly become depleted unless you have a way to charge it back up. It doesn't matter what the charge source is as long as it is able to keep up with demand.
