There is no specific limit but its better if you put it right beside the batteries for two reasons: 1. The connection between the battery and the MPPT is low voltage high current and so has more losses than the connection between the MPPT and the panel which has higher voltage and lower current. 2. If you dont have wireless temp sensors fitted the MPPT uses its own temperature as a guide to the charge profile. If its not in the same location as the batteries its temperature could be different
