To measure battery temperature with the SmartShunt, you need the optional temperature sensor Victron Energy ASS000100000 Temperature Sensor for BMV 702/712 and Smart Shunt. This sensor allows you to monitor the battery temperature, which is useful for maintaining battery health and alerting to problems of overheating. The SmartShunt can be wirelessly networked to certain other Victron devices. For example it can provide battery temperature information to the MPPT solar charge controllers.
