Yes, it has a patented SmartReady backup internal regulator. This feature ensures that the 100a alternator can still function properly even if the external regulator fails. The internal backup regulator is not intended for everyday use, it only has a single stage output which is deliberately set to be a bit lower than the normal output. For everyday use this alternator needs an external regulator like the MC-618-H
