The Balmar 250 amp alternator has a nominal rating of 250 amps, which means it can provide a substantial amount of electrical power to meet high-demand applications, making it especially valuable for boats. As with all alternators, the actual amount of power you get out depends on the temperature of the alternator and the rpm that it is turning at. To see a closer approximation of real world values you need to consult the output curve. Note that we are looking at alternator rpm here and not engine rpm, there is normally at least a 2:1 ratio between the two.
