No surge protector can handle unlimited surges, so in extreme cases (e.g., lightning), it may protect once but get damaged and stop functioning without feedback. Always use the correct voltage module, keep connections secure, and note that it may sacrifice itself to protect the alternator in severe events. The device is just a bit bigger than a matchbox and its unrealistic to expect it to perform this function every day forever. Its really only suitable for one off emergency situations.
