When set up as a voltage sensitive relay, which is how it is shipped out of the box, It automatically disconnects the load (e.g., appliances or accessories) when the battery voltage falls below a configurable threshold, preventing deep discharge damage and allowing the battery to recharge.
It has a different use when integrated into an externally managed Lithium Battery system. When programmed for Lithium Batteries is becomes a remotely controlled relay which is controlled by a Battery Management System (BMS) On a cue from the BMS it can be used to to disconnect DC loads or charge sources.
