The "EX" in the part number means this alternator is "External Only." It must be paired with a high-performance external voltage regulator (sold separately) to function. It does not have an internal regulator. This setup is preferred for managing high-amperage charging and protecting advanced battery banks (like AGM or Lithium). The most common regulator used with this alternator is the Arco Zeus AZ1000 Alternator Regulator.
