Balmar strongly recommends that a qualified alternator repair shop or an experienced marine electrical installer be used to complete the repair or rebuild using the 7060 rebuild kit. The average boat owner might be able to do this in an emergency but installing the rebuild involves detailed disassembly and reassembly of the alternator, including delicate work like replacing the brushes and rectifier and properly setting the bearings. Improper installation can damage the new components or lead to system failure. This is really better left to the professional.
