Its not recommended to connect your standard alternator directly to a lithium battery, as these batteries have very low internal resistance and will try to pull more current than a standard alternator is designed for, causing it to overheat and fail. The PKYS Marine Kit's design uses components (like a specialized DC-DC charger or external regulator) to safely manage and limit the current drawn from the alternator.
