When used with conventional batteries (wet cell, AGM, Gel etc) the BatteryProtect is a smart, DC load disconnect switch that automatically cuts off non-essential loads when the battery voltage drops too low, preventing damage from over-discharge, and can be remotely controlled via Bluetooth. This particular function doesn't really apply to Lithium batteries because they hold their voltage pretty constant for the entire charge cycle.
With lithium batteries the BatteryProtect is used in a different way. It becomes a remote control relay controlled by a signal from the BMS to disconnect loads when required by the battery.
The Bluetooth connection is used for programming to select the different modes.
