It is not recommended to connect a standard alternator directly to a lithium battery. Because lithium batteries have very low internal resistance, they can pull more current than a standard alternator can handle, leading to overheating. PKYS designs use DC-DC chargers (like the Orion XS) to safely regulate the flow.
