While the Amp rating (e.g., 100A) tells you when the fuse will blow, the Interrupt Rating (AIC) tells you how much current the fuse can safely stop. A large battery bank can dump 5,000+ amps in a split second; if a fuse has a low AIC, the current might "arc" across the blown fuse, continuing to melt wires and potentially causing a fire.
