If you need to do any programming you will require the Mk3 Programming interface (available in two versions USB-A and USB-C) and then either a laptop or an Android phone. (The phone will require the USB-C version.) You must have the interface device and you cannot use an iPhone. There are so many things you can do in programming that it is something that almost everybody will want to do. An introduction is in my article on programming. In theory you can do basic programming with the dipswitches but its so complicated and opaque that nobody uses except in emergencies, and even then not very successfully.
