Question: How do I calculate the DC current draw on my batteries when using an inverter?
Answer: You can use the formula Watts = Volts x Amps to do this calculation.
On the AC Output side if you have a 120 volt load that draws 10 amps that that is 120 Volts x 10 Amps = 1200 Watts.
Then you do the same calculation on the DC side of the inverter. If its a 12 volt inverter the calculation is 12 Volts x 100 Amps = 1200 Watts
This simplified calculation ignores inefficiency. In reality you will get a bit less out that you put in. Another simplification in the calculation is that we are using the nominal voltage of 12 V whereas in reality it might be a bit different
