Interrupt capacity (AIC) is the maximum fault current a breaker can safely stop without exploding or welding shut. The 187-Series has a high interrupt rating (up to 5,000 Amps at 12V). This is significantly higher than the lighter-duty 285-Series, making the 187-Series the better choice for primary protection near large battery banks that can discharge massive amounts of current during a short circuit.
