Having a 48 volt system drastically reduces cable weight and cost. For example, a heavy 4/0 cable required for a 12V system might be replaced by a much thinner 2 AWG or 4 AWG cable in a 48V system, making installation easier in tight spaces, allowing greater efficiency, and permitting higher power systems
