Because engine installations vary (due to different hose placements or alternator sizes), the standard belt provided works about 80% of the time. If your installation requires a longer belt you can swap out the one in the kit for a longer one, you will have to install the alternator and measure up to know the exact size needed. If you use an alternator larger than 170 amps, the belt is almost certainly going to be too short.
If you are overseas in a place where transport is difficult it might be worthwhile buying some extra sizes of belts to go with your kit and then returning the ones that dont fit. Here is where you can buy spare belts.
