The answer depends on your batteries, power needs, and belt configuration:
6-Series (100A – 150A): These are standard duty alternators that provide a huge increase over most stock alternators but are not really suitable for directly charging lithium batteries. Best for standard upgrades and wet cell or AGM batteries. The 100A version can often run on a single 1/2" V-belt, making it a simpler "drop-in" replacement.
XT-Series (170A – 250A): These are heavier duty and feature a "braided" stator design for impressive output at low RPMs (idle). These require a serpentine belt (Altmount kit) because a standard V-belt cannot handle the physical torque required to spin them. If you want to directly charge a lithium battery you need a heavier duty alternator like this.
